Be Filled With His Holy Spirit
It is known to many that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. However, it is not known to many that Jesus is the Son of God and not God Himself. To many this is heresy of the worst sort and it tantamount to blaspheming God. However, consider for a moment that God may wish to enlighten us to a new or perhaps deeper truth concerning His son and teach us more about His true nature.
Possession is a term mostly associated with the demonic realm. Many people have seen or heard about demons taking over individuals and exorcisms being performed by priests trying to make the evil spirit leave those afflicted. Though the Hollywood version is a bit sensational these things actually do happen and I have been present at many of them. However, possession like so many other things in the spiritual realm has its good side too. Though many do not know it when you speak in other tongues it is a limited form of possession because you yield a member of your body to the control of Holy Ghost. Being Spirit led is a form of possession and to the degree that you yield your body, soul, and mind to God you are more or less possessed by the Holy Spirit. The whole question we are currently answering in our lives is who will possess us. The spirits we yield to determine who we serve and where we spend eternity. If you yield to God and his angels you will follow them to heaven. If you yield to Satan and his fallen angels you will follow them to hell.
It is written Hebrews 1:2,
“Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;”
And in 2 Corinthians 5:19,
“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”
God was in Christ Jesus and it was the “in dwelling” of the Holy Spirit that made Jesus equal with God. God fully possessed Christ. However, this does not negate the fact that He was born of a woman and a man.
Often times God speaks of our bodies as earthen vessels. We are, as it were, clay pots to be filled either with the glory of God or the dishonor of Satan. Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit without measure and when that took place you could then say that He was equal to God because there was no difference between them. Here is a truth,
“Equality with God does not mean that Jesus was a separate god but rather that He was the exact representation of the one true God.”
When you looked into His eyes you saw God looking back. When he spoke it was God speaking. When the hand of Jesus touched you it was the touch of God. It was the indwelling of God that made Him deity and not some intrinsic part of His nature.
The reason that it is important to understand this doctrine is that we need to realize as individuals that we can also be filled with the Holy Spirit just as Jesus was. Of course Jesus will always be preeminent in all things but as members of His body we can also be filled with the same Holy Spirit to the measure it is given to us. Just as Jesus shown forth the nature of God to the world we can, as we yield to His Spirit, also show forth our Fathers nature to those around us. Just as God indwelt Jesus we can be possessed of the Holy Spirit and allow God to be in us reconciling the world unto Himself.
Frankly, I do not know what all the fuss is about concerning the trinity. Many doctrines were thought to be correct for a time but later, when they were found to be in error, either modified or done away with. Literally, every other doctrine that was developed in the dark ages under the Roman Catholic Church has been shown to be heretical to some degree and so it should not be a stretch to believe that perhaps the doctrine of the trinity is faulty too.
Understanding that Jesus was a man filled with God allows us to understand that we can have the same destiny too. It also allows us to know that Jesus was someone we can be like and emulate as the Holy Spirit leads. If Jesus was indeed God from the day he was born there is no common frame of reference for us. After all, who among us can be God? On the other hand, when we understand that Jesus was born of a woman and had to make decisions just like each one of us we realize that we can yield to the Holy Spirit and be like Jesus in those respects too. As it is written in Hebrews 14:15,
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
The doctrine of the trinity is a doctrine based in fear and oppression. In many churches you do not have the option of believing God is simply one. If you do not believe me try suggesting that the “holy trinity” is not sound doctrine and then stand back and watch what happens. Most likely you will be politely listened to for a while but if you continue to insist that God is one and not triune then you will be labeled a heretic and possibly told to leave. This is not Christian love but rather demonic intimidation and it is not right.
In conclusion, Christian doctrine needs to be set right. The foundation of our beliefs needs to be brought into alignment with God. We must not avoid doing the hard and dirty work of digging out the bad so that we can lay again what is good else anything we build might be in danger of falling just when we need it be strong. The erroneous doctrine of the trinity purports to define the nature of God and so is at the very core of our belief as Christians. I invite you to open your mind to understand His true nature and the place His son Jesus Christ occupies before Him. I invite you to search the scriptures and see if what I say is true. Do not bow to those who might chastise you for searching the scriptures with an open mind. It is vital to your development as a believer that you accept and champion truth as God gives it to you. Do not draw back from what God speaks to your heart simply because it costs too much. In the end no one but yourself will give an account for your life and in that day you want to be able to say that when God spoke you listened.
