I wish to talk to you about Spiritual love. I capitalize Spiritual love simply because this type of love is divine. I sometimes tire of people talking theoretically about different Greek words for love because it does not really tell us what real Spiritual Love is all about. Here is a truth,
“Spiritual love is literally God loving others through you completely and unreservedly”
To begin with, most of us are damaged to greater or lesser extents. Throughout life we have fallen into sin or been treated unkindly and have suffered emotional and sometimes physical scars from these experiences. These scars prevent us from being ourselves and sometimes cause us to close up our hearts to varying extents.
God has made each one of us unique and has given us special talents, but much of what we are and can be lies dormant for we have learned fear through unkindness from the world and even those closest to us. Moreover, much of our creativity cannot be unlocked due to the fact that we are disconnected from His body. We are made to be connected with one another and, just like a key is useless without a corresponding lock, we cannot function without our counterparts.
Often times we feel that when we meet and marry our mate that we have indeed found our counterpart and are now complete. However, as our marriages go on we find out that our mates cannot be everything to us and there is a sense that we are yet unfulfilled. As wonderful as our marriages are there are still parts of us that are not realized.
Mankind was never meant to function as separate entities but rather was created first to interface with God and then to interface with those other parts of the human race that God chose. Paul speaks about the body of Christ and its members that are fitly joined together each supplying what the other one needs. While marriage is perhaps the most intimate and complete form of this type of union it is not meant to be the sum total of it. Unfortunately, when God brings other people near to connect with you, especially if they are of the opposite sex, many protest His choices and negate what He is trying to do. People may say they saved their marriage by rejecting these members but in effect they stymied God and the body of Christ suffers for it.
Hence we come now to Spiritual Love. Spiritual Love is a supernatural bond that God forges between people of either sex and is God’s way of fitly joining His body together. At times, when feel incomplete, it is simply because we are not connected with those other parts Christ’s body that we are meant for. This is an ordering by the Holy Spirit and only God knows by divine knowledge where we fit and with whom.
Spiritual love loves without reason. It is a love that is given through God’s Spirit to individuals who will yield to it and to others who will receive it. Spiritual love is God loving His saints through His saints. Spiritual love is pure but not in the immaculate notion of purity that many people conceive of. True Spiritual love will literally do anything that is required to selflessly love the object of its affection. If God wants to hug a saint who needs a hug the best way to do that is through another saint. If God wants to kiss a saint the best way to do that is through another saint greeting one another with a holy kiss. If God wishes to fellowship in love with His saints the best way to do that is through love feasts. Here is a truth,
“Spiritual love is intimate and personal reflecting the needs of those so loved.”
Pain is to a large extent the reason why God’s people are dysfunctional. Through many difficult experiences, most of them demonically inspired, people have learned to close up and protect their vulnerable places. Unfortunately, when people protect themselves from hurt they also are not free to be themselves and manifest God to others. Divine love changes all this and suddenly people find that they have the courage to be transparent and let God flow through them. All of a sudden those treasures which lay inactive within each of us are given freedom of expression for the fear that kept them hidden is no longer present. When God connects you to the other parts of the body of Christ which compliment and complete you then you become whole and at peace with God and with yourself.
The Devil fears this type of divine unity more than anything else. As long as He can keep us divided and suspicious of each other we are of little threat to him personally or his satanic kingdom as a whole. However, if the Body of Christ ever comes together as God directs and through love starts to function as He intended then all his evil plans are doomed.
In reality most of the barriers that Christians erect to “protect” themselves from sin are simply bars which form self made mental prisons. Many are bound by knowledge. They know in their hearts what they desperately need and want but because Satan has convinced them that these desires are ungodly they deny themselves and are miserable. They may smile and say that they are blessed but deep down inside they are desperate souls. They deny themselves because the only way they can imagine having what they want is through sin and they feel condemned because what they want must therefore be evil. What they do not know, and what Satan does not want them to know, is that God wants to fulfill the desires of our heart through His Spiritual Love manifested through His body of saints.
It all comes down to trusting God rather than trusting your own mind. We are so used to thinking in certain ruts that we will never be able to see what God really wants unless we trust Him more than ourselves. People say that God would never do this or that simply because their doctrine dos not allow for Him to manifest Himself in that way. However, if you never trust His voice enough to take a chance how you will never know if what you are hearing is right or not.
Trusting what God says is the basis of every person’s salvation experience. You simply trust that if you believe that Jesus died for your sins and arose the third day you will be saved. However, the trust does not stop there but continues each day of your Christian walk as He leads and guides you into greater maturity. You must trust that if you ask Him for a good gift He will give you the Holy Sprint. So to if God wishes to flow through and to you in Divine love you must trust Him and yield your mind and body in this purpose also.
The Holy Spirit is what determines what you can and cannot do. You must know His voice and obey His Spirit allowing Him to draw the line in whatever situation you find yourself in. The mark of a mature person is self control and the mark of a mature saint of God is also Spiritual self control i.e. the Holy Spirit controls what you do and what you don’t do at all times. Yes, you are fully able to use this type of liberty for an occasion for the flesh but know that God is not mocked and whatever you sew you shall reap. Take small steps as He leads and learn what is and what is not His voice. Through each experience you will lean a little more so that you will know what is and is not of Him in the future. I believe it is always better to try to walk on water than to remain in the boat.
Also, people often warn that Satan comes as an angel of light to deceive people who are not careful. They say this to try to tell you what you are experiencing is not of God even though it looks and feels exactly like Him. The truth is that when you are walking in the Spirit what is of God and what is not of God is extremely plain and there is no comparison. If you truly want to know God and yield to His Holy Spirit you do not have to fear deception nearly as much as natural minded people want to claim.
Lastly, I write to you as one who has experienced a foretaste of the Spiritual fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles. Many things I write are relevant to those who are entering into this spiritual fulfillment. If what I say does not make total sense to you at this point simply hide it in your hearts for I assure you that if you do enter into Spiritual Love that everything I say will make perfect sense and help you to keep your head about you in some very rough waters.
