One of the chief benefits of “connecting” with the body of Christ is the explosion of revelation that happens when spirits connect and hearts unite. We were never meant to live alone but rather we were meant to flow as one joined together by His Spirit.
As I have been speaking with a prophetess, who is a connection in the spirit, my spirit and mind have been coming to understand something that God is speaking through her spirit. I think this is a major understanding that God is beginning to bring to His church and I am excited to share part of it with you.
People have talked about the phenomena of the “Rhema” as it pertains to the spoken word of God. People have said that “God speaks today” just as He did many centuries ago when the scriptures were written down. People often make a difference between the two attributing more authority and weight to written scripture than to what God speaks today. They think that somehow the Rhema is less important and less reliable than the Bible. However, here is a truth,
“It was the Rhema that Adam and Eve heard in the Garden of Eden and the written word was only given after mankind refused to hear God’s voice at mount Horeb.”
Just as God gave the children of Israel and King when they refused Samuel as their judge, God wrote down the scriptures when Israel refuesed to hear His voice as He spoke His commandments from mount Horeb. It is written,
“ And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.”
“And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”
Exodus 20: 18:19
“And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do. And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Up until this time men and women of God had lived and served God by hearing the Rhema. The scriptures that were penned by Moses were not an elevated form of communication from God but a compromise made because of His peoples fear and unbelief. Whereas God wanted to speak His word directly to His people, His people wanted to draw back and read his word away from His presence. Rather than accepting God’s Rhema, they had grown so far from Him that they feared His voice. This has been the way that most believers have come to know God ever since.
The Rhema is the living word of God
God is in the process of restoring all things. We are being brought back to the garden by faith in His pattern son, Jesus Christ. Just as Christ, who was the second Adam, lived by the Rhema we to are being taught to once again trust and live by everyone word that proceeds out of the mouth of our God.
The Rhema, my friends, is the only type of revelation mankind was ever meant to have. Direct communication with God was to be the pattern for knowing our Father and anything else that He thought relevant to our lives. In fact, the truth is, that relative to the Bible the Rhema is an ocean and the scriptures are but one small island in that vast sea.
Those who followed God lived by the Rhema up until the time that Moses brought the Children of Israel out of Egypt. Enoch, who walked with God and was not, lived by the Rhema. Noah, perfect in his generation, lived by the Rhema. Job, perfect in his generation, lived by the Rhema, Abraham, the father of our faith and a friend of God, lived by the Rhema and Moses, the giver of the law, lived by and wrote the first five books of the law by the Rhema. He is a truth,
“All revelation is derived through the Rhema.”
the Rhema is where we started out and the Rhema is where we will end up. Being Spirit led by the voice of God is living by the Rhema. The Rhema does not violate the scriptures because the scriptures where given to us by the Rhema.
Jesus spoke by the Rhema just as Moses did. When Jesus utter the sermon on the mount it was by the Rhema and it only became scripture because God anointed the apostles to write the four gospels. The reason that Jesus added to the scripture is that he was receiving revelation through the Rhema. Here is another truth,
“Scripture is but a small subset of the Rhema. There is much more of the Rhema than scripture to be had if we will only allow God to speak to us and through us.”
The revelation that Jesus had from a young boy was the Rhema. here is a truth,
“The Rhema is the expression of the logos.”
The Rhema, which flows from the Logos, is the word that was with God in the beginning. It is the word that became flesh and made Jesus Christ what He was. And now, if you can receive it, those who walk in the Spirit are the Rhema of God.
We are living in a “Present Testament.” In this Present Testament we are to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God and not only by every scripture that is written down. The Rhema, the genesis of the scriptures, will not violate the scriptures. However, the Rhema will almost certainly violate man’s dogma.
In conclusion, we are to return to a life of the Rhema. We are to once again walk by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of our Lord. Rhema is our birthright and each and every one that is born of God can and should hear the Rhema. God is about to speak the Rhema in such a profound way that even the deaf with hear the Rhema, the blind will see the Rhema, and the lame shall carry the the Rhema to all the world.
