It’s Showdown Time…
Perception is a big thing when it comes to war. To some, when the battle nears they see only danger and defeat. To others, when it comes time to prove themselves, they see only victory and glory. Most see giants as insurmountable obstacles, but to a few, they are merely a means to complete victory.
Make no mistake about this, we are at war. This war is an all-out assault on the people of God for the purpose of taking away the very salvation God gives us. Many times we come to do battle, and just when things seem bad enough, the enemy produces a Goliath.
How dare Goliath mock God!
This new champion of destruction mocks not only us but the God in whom we trust. It taunts and ridicules everything we believe in, daring us to fight so that it can show how weak we are and how strong it is. Granted, in the natural world it may seem like this giant cannot be overcome, but thankfully, we do not walk in the natural realm and we do not see with natural eyes. It is written,
“Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.”
1 Samuel 17:36
When people question our sanity for going up against circumstances that seem impossible, that is when it is good, like David, to recount the mighty victories God has wrought in our lives. In the face of certain defeat, we simply declare out loud the times God’s done the impossible in our lives. As David, we declare that everything that we have done in our lives IN HIM has led us to this day. We do not see the impossible because we have experienced the God who did the impossible.
David declares, with a loud voice,
“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord‘s, and he will give you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:45-47
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
Truly, our battle is not dependent upon our strength or might. Our victory will not come through anything on this earth that men rely upon. Our only advantage is that we come in the name of Jesus and trust in our Almighty Father to use what we have to defeat those who mock the God we serve.
It pleases God to use the weak things of the world to confound the wise. It is the foolishness of the cross that brings salvation and not the might of this world. We fight the good fight of faith with nothing more than what God gives us, because IN HIM all things are mighty. Be it five smooth stones or a jawbone of an ass or a rod of almond wood we have all that we need to defeat any foe. The weaker we are, the more God demonstrates His glory and that is just the way He likes it.
Let’s do this thing
In conclusion, The head of this giant is coming off today. That which seems impossible is not a problem for our God. What puts fear in the hearts of those who only see with natural eyes is a stepping stone to absolute victory for us. The Philistines and their champion were defeated before they ever set foot on that field of battle because they mocked and challenged God Himself. These demonic forces that mock our God shall be no different than those uncircumcised Philistines! Those that opposed our Lord in us shall fall with a thud just like Goliath did.
To God be all the glory, honor and praise for this victory! Let those who dare to defy the living God be as that fallen giant. Today is a day of victory!
Amen.
How can I apply this teaching to my life?
Are there giants in your life mocking you and your God? Do you have circumstances that seem impossible to overcome? Are you being oppressed by those that look down upon your service to the God of Israel? Are you fed up with being afraid to fight for what God has given you? If that is the case then….
THEM’S BE FIGHT’N WORDS, and I can use them about now. God bless you Michael.
