The Other 90%: How Revelation Unlocks Our Full Potential
Are you running on empty?
There is a common belief that we only use 10% of our brain capacity. While modern neurologists argue about that, what most people generally believe is that we are living far below our potential. This, as it turns out is true, albeit not for the reasons most people think.
Paul says,
“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:”
Ephesians 4:17,18
The truth is that we do live far below our potential, i.e. our potential in God. Our Father made our minds to work in tandem with the Holy Spirit and without that union of God and man we operate at only a fraction of our intellectual and spiritual capacity.
Touching eternity
To many, spiritual experiences are infrequent occurrences that stretch and strain our ability to comprehend. However, this is only because we are not used to living up to our possibility in God. The fuel God created the mind of man to consume is revelation. This is how Adam lived before the fall. Today, we receive “flashes” of insight (revelation) and consider those the exception rather than the rule.
When you walk with God completely, as Jesus did, you have total and complete access to the mind of our Father. Everything is crystal clear because you access His thoughts. In our darkened understanding we sometimes bump into the mind of God and call it “inspiration.” At times, when our natural minds are at rest during sleep, our spirits are free to receive from God and we wake with clarity of vision.
Our natural reasoning eventually kills us. God says,
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Proverbs 14:12
The way that seems right to us
Left to our own reasoning, we cannot find our way into the light. Many of the smartest people in the world reject God and thus seal their fate of unending torment in the lake of fire with Satan and his demons. God made salvation conditional on giving up our natural reasoning and simply believing Him so that we would be forced to live, once again, by revelation. No one comes to the cross and accepts Jesus because it seems “reasonable”.
When we begin to live by revelation, our eyes are opened. Which eyes, you ask? Our spiritual eyes. Elisha said,
“…Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”
2 King 6:17
Walking in the Spirit
Just as we have a physical body that interfaces with the natural realm, we also have a spiritual body that interfaces with the spiritual realm. When our understanding is darkened through sin, we are cut off from that part of ourselves that functions in the spiritual world. We walk by natural sight in the natural world and we walk by spiritual sight in the spiritual world. We hear people speak with our natural hearing and we hear God speak with our spiritual ears. Paul says,
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
1 Corinthians 2:14
Children, before they reach the age of accountability, often have access to that realm and that is why they are sometimes much more in tune with the Spirit than adults. They know things they cannot know, they see things they cannot see, and they hear things they cannot hear. Children are not “natural-minded” yet and so still have access, in part, to the spiritual realm.
Our spiritual bodies allow us to see, hear, touch and otherwise navigate the Spirit. Christians, by and large, still operate by their natural minds and thus can only see with their natural eyes, hear with their natural ears, and thus cannot see or hear spiritual things. As we live by our natural reasoning, our minds are darkened and we live far below our potential. On the other hand, those Christians who live by revelation, find that they have access to their spiritual side once again and walking in the Spirit becomes possible.
Seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus
There is a spiritual realm that we actually live in concurrent with our natural world. The spiritual realm, contrary to what people assume, is more real than our physical existence. In fact, our physical plane is but a subset of this greater reality that God inhabits. With call that place eternity.
Every day we interact with angels and demons. Largely unaware of what is going on around us we attribute amazing luck to chance and tragic events to random happenstance. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is very little that is random in our world. We live in a war zone where the battle of the ages is being fought over our souls. All the carnage we see in this world is but an echo of the real spiritual conflict that rages all around us. If God pulled back the veil, as He did for Elisha’s servant, we would be shocked beyond our ability to comprehend.
Living by revelation opens the heavens to us
What transpired between my spiritual connection and myself when we experienced the Temple in Heaven and the Holy of Holies, was a result of walking by revelation and not by sight. Through yielding to the Spirit of God, our spiritual bodies became available to us once again and we found ourselves transported into the spiritual realm. We did so as the behest of the Holy Spirit and not of our own will or reason. Indeed, if we had thought about anything at that time without yielding to the Spirit of Truth, our experience would have abruptly stopped.
We are children of the supernatural
In conclusion, we are children of the supernatural. We are literally seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus now, at this very moment. God seals with the Holy Spirit of promise which makes us citizens of the New Heavens and the New Earth. We are literally living in this present world but no longer of it. Through the earnest of our inheritance, the Holy Spirit, we straddle two times and two worlds. The more we live and act through revelation, the more we live and act as we do in the world to come.
Finally, our minds were meant only to function with the Spirit of the living God permeating every synapse and neuron. Rejecting His Spirit robbed us of most of our abilities as sons and daughters of our Creator. Without the Spirit of God, Christian’s can never reach their full potential in God. The good news is that, as we allow ourselves to walk in the Spirit through revelation, God gives us back everything that sin took away. We start to walk again, with our Father, in the cool of the day. We are literally remade into the image and likeness of our Father God. This is the manifestation of the sons of God. Amen
