God's Boy Scout

God Can Do This!

Sometimes I feel like God’s boy scout rubbing two sticks together in order to produce enough friction to start a fire.  I have been reading my manual (the Bible) over and over.  I have carefully gathered my tinder, notched my piece of wood, piled my progressively bigger sticks together and stacked them in the shape of a tepee, putting up my wind break. Everything is set.

I’m pulling my little make shift string bow back and forth until whiffs of smoke start to curl up.  Back and forth, back and forth, faster and faster I go.  More smoke then little embers emerge.  Eventually, God willing, I am going start a fire.

God’s boy scout in far away places

I have already lit one fire deep in the bush in Africa.  It’s funny to me that God would allow people in the middle of nowhere to know the will of His Holy Spirit in such a powerful way while people in the “civilized” countries still feed on centuries old manna.  I guess when you don’t know a lot it is easy to accept God for who He really is.

Paul says,

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”

I Corinthians 1:27

Today, as God’s boy scout, I want to talk and share a few thoughts about building the fire of God’s Spirit.

To begin with,  what are we really doing for God?  Most of us have a desire to know our Lord and to serve Him or else we would not be here.  However, in the big scheme of things what are our efforts producing?  I am not disparaging anyone or anything, but rather elevating our perspective to a higher viewpoint.  Come up here with me and take a look for a second…I promise it will be worth it.

God’s boy scout

Personally, I am not just starting a fire to keep myself warm (although I like to be warm), I am starting a fire to take part in nothing less than the third and final reformation.  I am nailing my version of 95 thesis to the church door, challenging the religious “powers that be” to change.  I’ve had enough of living in the desert while I know, from experience, that there is a land flowing with milk and honey just over the horizon.

David Ogilvy, an advertising genius, once said to his staff, “compete with the immortals.”  Meaning, if you are going to do something don’t shoot for “better” but rather aim for something “truly great.”  Likewise, we all have one life to live and if we are going to make our lives matter why not aim for something truly  meaningful in God’s kingdom?

I am as sane as they come

Some say the definition of insanity is “doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.”  I left off doing the same old things a long time ago simply because I was tired of getting no where.  My friends, I believe it is time to compete with the immortals of our faith and do mighty exploits.

God’s boy scout asks you, “are you satisfied with what you are doing or is Christ calling you to a higher place in Him?  Why not climb out of the valley and stand on the mountain top with God?  Isn’t  it time to sell all to gain Christ?”  If that is your heart and if you are willing to pledge allegiance to the Lamb, then help me start this fire.  Help me rub these sticks together until we build such a flame of the Spirit that it keeps the whole world warm.  Help me start a third reformation that will unleash the body of Christ upon the world in such a seismic wave of God’s Spirit that it spreads like an unstoppable tsunami of Divine Love, healing billions of souls who cry out for deliverance.

Satan, no further!

Why should we, the very children of God, allow the Devil to desecrate our home one minute longer!  As God’s boy scout, I say stand up and plant our feet firmly on this Earth and shout “NO FURTHER!”  Let us fight the onset of demonic night by letting the glory of God shine through us even brighter.  It is time to answer God’s call with one voice, “here am I Lord, send me!”

How can I apply this teaching to my life?

You have read the vision.  You have heard His call in your heart today.  Do something about it. Take your position in the army of God.  I am fighting a battle here and I could use some brave men and women to help me win it.  If you have talents why not put them to use in His service?  There are ways you can help us spread the word about God’s divine love.  Remember, recruit, we do the impossible because we see the invisible. Improvise, adapt, overcome!

Hoorah! I’ll talk to you later soldier!
