In the beginning, God said,
“…God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Genesis 1:27
And,
“And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”
Genesis 1:28
Many in our day and age say that there are too many human beings on planet earth. Overpopulation has been a catch phrase for many years. In fact, reducing the number of mankind has been fashionable for some time.
Reasonable, right?
Moreover, most people believe that the decision to have children is their business and only their business.
Again, not much new here.
What if children were the reason you were created?
However, what if having children was a commandment of God and, in fact, the very reason you were created in the first place? What if bringing forth after your kind is the very will of your Father?
Well, that would change things a bit, but is that true?
Almost everything God creates is a picture of some facet of Himself.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
Romans 1:20
Therefore, God both declared by spoken word what He wanted us to do, i.e. procreate, and by the very way we are fashioned, made known to us that this is our greatest calling.
It is little wonder, then, that there is a war against having children.
God purposed to united men and women
The truth is, in the beginning, before sin entered into the world, God purposed to unite men and women, by His Spirit, in order to bring forth after His kind. To accomplish this, our Father would fill both the man and the woman with His Spirit and they would be drawn to mate at the time and with the person He chose. Therefore, when the child was born, it would be born through a union of His Spirit and their spirits, and His word in them would be made flesh. This is, in fact, what Christ demonstrated to the world and this is why He is the pattern Son, the last Adam and the first born of God’s new creation.
In our present day world, all that God created is obscured by mankind’s insistence on going their own way, doing what is right in their own eyes. Thus many do not want to have children and denigrate those who do. In fact, having six or seven children in our day and age is considered excessive at best and irresponsible at worst. Moreover, the very same people who say this to those who have labored and sacrificed to create life, are sometimes the very ones who have taken life from their own wombs.
Remember what God said – bring forth after your kind
God created you to procreate and if you are able, do so. Do not let the cares and worries of this life keep you from obeying your Lord and creating new life. This is your purpose. Remember, we are created eternal and though our bodies pass away, our spirits do not. In the resurrection, God will raise us incorruptible, in newness of life, and all those who love Him will make the New Heavens and New Earth their eternal home. Your children, their children, and their children’s children will all live forever with Jesus in God’s new creation.
Amen.
