What if God Controlled Procreation?

God said,
“God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
Genesis 1:22
To most, sex is sacred. The act of procreation is something shared between a man and a woman. Moreover, being a divine mandate, it is as old as mankind itself.
Clearly, it is God’s will that men and women bring forth after their kind. However, in our day and age how this is accomplished, with all the tradition, prohibitions, and natural-minded thinking, ask yourself, “are we going about it the way our Father originally intended?”
Furthermore, what if, for the sake of argument, people mated and had children strictly through the leading of the Holy Spirit, without regard for propriety, class, race, financial or education considerations, etc.? How would Spirit-led mating with people the Holy Spirit led you to be with, married or not, turn out?
Maybe we’ve not really understood what God wants
To be sure, the devil is leading many to mate all the time through drugs, lust, convenience, necessity, and family pressure. Many children are born of less-than-ideal unions entered into for ungodly reasons. Such unions, while frowned upon by some, are so common that hardly anyone notices or cares anymore. Why are these types of unions the norm and Spirit-led coupling thought to be of the devil?
It sounds crazy doesn’t it? It sounds like anarchy and sin that men and women, based solely upon feeling led to mate as God directs, with or without the marriage license and the blessing of whatever denomination they belong, would be His will. To lose control of how people love each other and transfer that responsibility back to God Himself would be a complete and utter disaster, wouldn’t it?
However, in the beginning, did not God bring Eve to Adam? Was not Sarah destined to bear a son named Isaac to Abraham? Did not Rebekah alight from her camel and run to Isaac? Did not Bathsheba bear Solomon? And finally, was not Mary found with child by the Holy Spirit and bore Jesus for our heavenly Father?
Perhaps it is time to ignore convention in favor of God’s leading
What if everyone would start ignoring convention and the natural-minded morality of the church and simply mated as God led? What type of generations would result from such Spirit-led unions? Wouldn’t God bless and keep the children He authored? Might sons and daughters born of such unions have an innate propensity to love God and be His divine will?
I think we may have gotten it all wrong, folks. Doing it the “right way” according to convention and church dogma may be the exact wrong way, at least in some cases. Those who love and live together simply because God connected them may be more righteous and divinely ordained than those who walk the aisles of churches and sign pieces of government paper legalizing their physical union.
If at the beginning it was not so, perhaps in these latter days it will not be so again. Maybe, just maybe, we will mate as God leads and bear children according to His will and timing without regard for the straitjacket of legalistic doctrine, which seeks to control what should be exclusively God’s domain.
It could happen…
Blessings,
Michael
Amen and Amen. “In the beginning it was not so”. Let’s go back to how it was in the beginning.
Dear Laura,
Thanks for you comment. I agree, it’s time to go back to the garden!
Essentially, Laura, God is saying, “do you trust me?”
Big hugs and lots of love,
Michael
