The Day Of Pentecost

Why are speaking in other tongues the sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit?

Have you ever wondered why God wants us to speak in other tongues? Why did God choose that particular sign to testify that believers are filled with His Spirit? When you think about this question, it does make you wonder why.

Consider how you received the gift of the Holy Spirit.  You asked and then you yielded to God’s Spirit. You allowed the Holy Spirit to have control over your tongue and you spoke as the Spirit gave utterance.  In fact, your natural mind (your carnal reasoning) plays no part whatsoever as you speak in an unknown tongue.

God’s Spirit departs

In the garden of Eden, when Adam ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, a great wind blew, and the Holy Spirit departed from him as a flame of fire over his head.  Immediately, God’s Spirit left and God’s son felt His Father’s presence no more.  Adam’s eyes opened as His natural man began to reason without the revelation of the Holy Spirit.

God’s Spirit returns

Five millennia later, God’s Spirit descended in like manner as He left.  Tongues of fire rested on 120 men and women in an upper room in Jerusalem.  A mighty rushing wind blew as the Spirit of God descended as tongues of fire rested upon each of those present.  That which was taken from mankind so long ago, God restored to His sons and daughters on the day of Pentecost.

As we speak in other tongues, we return to the way God created Adam and Eve to live.  In the garden, Adam and Eve not only allowed God to flow through their tongues but also through their entire bodies. The first man and woman were literally one with God. When you looked at Adam you saw God looking back. As Adam spoke, God spoke.  When Adam reached out you felt the touch of God.

We live through revelation

Jesus lived through revelation.  Not only did Jesus yield his tongue to God, but also everything in His being.  When you looked at Jesus you saw God.  As Jesus spoke, God spoke.  When Jesus reached out for you it was literally the touch of God.  Jesus and God are one.

A finishing work

Tabernacles finishes what began on the day of Pentecost.  What began with yielding our tongues to God, finishes through yielding our entire being to Him.  We return to the garden when we fulfill this scripture,

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me”

Galatians 2:20

Paul said, “Not I, but Christ liveth in me”.  This was not a figure of speech to the apostle.  Paul meant that the Holy Spirit literally lived within Him.  Paul no longer operated his own body but his body was given over to the Spirit of God.  Thus, the way that Jesus lived through the Spirit, Paul lived through the Spirit.

Be filled with My Spirit

Speaking in tongues is the sign that we are coming back into our original pre-fallen state of sinless perfection.  When we speak in other tongues we yield to God like Adam used to yield to God.  We give ourselves, in that one area, completely over to the Holy Ghost.  It is the first fruits of what God intends to accomplish with our entire being.

There will come a day, very soon, when you will speak as the oracle of God.  Your words will be a living epistle read and know of all men.  Emanuel 2.0 will walk the earth in the Body of Christ as we all yield to the Holy Spirit in such perfection that God shall say, “come up hither and sit at my right hand as co-heirs with Christ.”

Cease from your own labors

Perfection is ceasing from our own works and living by revelation. Soon we will yield our entire lives to the Holy Spirit just as we yield our tongues.  As Jesus manifested God to the world, so we will manifest God to the world.

When you are speaking with someone who is crying out for God, allow God to come forward and speak. The Holy Spirit dwells within you so why not allow Him to say what He desires? When someone needs to see God, allow the Holy Spirit to take over and look back at them through your eyes. Become the manifested son or daughter of God you are meant to be. If someone needs to be held, give in to God and allow Him to hold them through you.  We do not have to wait for God to reveal Himself to us for He is already in us.  Yield and let Him live through you.  In Jesus name.
