Come, let us go up…
to the mountain of the house of the Lord!
God says,
“Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King
Psalm 48:2
In the beginning, God planted a garden eastward in Eden. However, the actual garden was a relatively small part of the whole. Eden was a vast expanse and in the north there was a high mountain. God lived in the sides of that high place, on the slopes of that peak. This was and is also called the “mount of the congregation” because Seraphim, Cherubim, and Angels dwelt there too. Sometimes, in the cool of the day, YHWH would descend from His high place and commune with Adam.
Rebellion in the sides of the north,
“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:”
Isaiah 14:13
Lucifer, the covering cherub, wanted to be like God. However, there is only one God, and their can be none beside Him. God cast Lucifer out of the mountain of the house of the Lord.
The direction of heaven is always up
Everything in the scriptures refers to this first kingdom of God in Eden. God is always high and lifted up, often appearing on a mountain top as He did in Horeb after the children of Israel left Egypt.
God says,
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord‘s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 2:2,3
A mountain in northern Eden is the original mount Zion
The mountain of the house of the Lord in Eden is the original Mount Zion. Earth, therefore, is not just some planet in a vast universe, but is the dwelling place of the Most High. God left because of sin, but will come back in the person of Jesus Christ at the second coming. New Jerusalem, the original city of God in northern Eden, becomes the center of God’s New Creation.
The millennial temple in Ezekiel’s vision represents God’s original abode in north Eden. This house of God was the literal kingdom of God on Earth. The whole of the millennium foreshadows a restoration of that heavenly kingdom in the New Heavens and New Earth. Also, God took the tree of life with Him when He left Eden. That is why you see it at the entrance of that eternal city in the restoration of all things.
East of Eden, God created a cradle for His children: we call it paradise. Our genesis is Eden, but someday we will ascend the sides of the north to become God’s wife. The earthly glory of Solomon and his wives echos the mount of the congregation which originally existed in Eden. Our future home is in the mountain of the house of the Lord in the world to come. Just as Eve is the mother of all living, we bring forth after God’s kind. The children born of God and man will populate the new earth and the entire universe.
Finally, God says,
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9
