Eternity in our hearts
What is eternity? Some people say it is “forever”, but what does that really mean? Eternity has no beginning and no end. It is infinite. Eternity is the habitation of Almighty God. We, on the other hand, are finite. We have a beginning and an end. People are born, we mature, then we die. How do finite beings, like ourselves, interact with an infinite God? Inquiring minds want to know.
What if, just by way of conjecture, we are not finite beings. What if our spirits are indeed immortal. Perhaps our minds so control our perceptions that we have forgotten who and what we are.
God says,
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
Genesis 2:7
The Breath of life
Our life is of divine origin. God literally breathed His life into us and that life is Spirit. Adam received of God’s Spirit and that is what caused him to become a living soul. Besides, the Holy Spirit Himself dwells in us when we speak in other tongues.
The scriptures speak of natural dead as sleeping. Only the second death, which is being cast into the Lake of Fire, is true death. However, that death consists of an eternity of torment and not of non-existence.
God promises eternal life if we accept His son Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. If you think about it in natural minded terms, that means in one billion years, our life will have only begun. Obviously, we simply cannot comprehend eternity.
Time after time
I spoke with my spiritual connection the other day and she mused that perhaps time only exists relative to this creation. Furthermore, she said, perhaps time did not exist until Adam ate of the forbidden fruit. I thought that was an interesting muse because prior to sin Adam and Eve were immortal. When you have forever is time even relevant any longer?
Moreover, because our spirits are immortal, perhaps they exist outside of time in eternity and that is why, when we are in the Spirit, we can prophesy about things future and things past as though we are seeing them in person.
A Present Testament for a Present Reality
Still a more amazing thought is: what if we already exist in the New Heavens and New Earth. I know this sounds out there, but walk with me a moment on this one. We have received an earnest (foretaste) of our inheritance with the infilling of the Holy Spirit. We speak a new language when God fills us. What if this new language is more than just a sign but, in reality, the language we will speak in the world to come?
Once we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit natural laws don’t seem to apply to us any longer. We can pray for the sick and they will recover, drink a deadly poison and not be harmed, cast out demons in Jesus name, and even raise dead people. We do not have the power to do these “miracles” but God does them through us by the power of His Spirit. People call these events “supernatural” because they are beyond what is possible in this physical universe. Yet they do take place. Why?
Just another day in the New Heavens and New Earth
The truth is, we perform miracles by faith in Jesus name because that is how things work in the world to come. Earnest means down payment. It is part of what we will receive in the New Heavens and New Earth. A down payment has to come from something real, not something imaginary. Meaning, the rest of what we have a little of right now exists presently somewhere else. Therefore, if we heal by the power of God it is a foretaste of a present reality.
What if the reality is that the New Heavens and New Earth already existed? Perhaps, what is really happening is that we are experiencing a little of what we already presently have in the New Creation. Therefore, spiritual connections are also echos of that world to come. The Body of Christ and the way that God connects us here on this present creation is merely reflections of the reality of the next.
Glad to meet you…again
To put a finer point on it, when you are deeply connected to another person, it is a foretaste of a relationship that already exists in the New Heavens and New Earth. This is why we automatically “know” the person whom God connects us with. It is like you have known them all your life and you immediately feel familiar and one with them. You know them here because you have known them there basically, forever.
Strange but true
As my spiritual connection would put it, these are just “musings” in the Spirit. However, God has reasons for everything and from His perspective everything He does makes sense. The supernatural is our home and the sooner we learn about it and live there full time the better off we will all be. We should not fear the spiritual realm just because some have perverted is for ungodly uses. What God created is very good.
Finally, trust God’s Spirit and do not fear to be led into new and exciting places in Him. The apostles and early Christians experienced miracles and other supernatural events on a daily basis. This is how the church began and greater works are yet to be done in Jesus name. Do not fear the Spirit because we are born of it.
