The Danger of Safety

the danger of safety

Are You So Safe You Can’t Move?

There are a lot of people talking about safety these days. In fact, the media bombards us with messages about safety all the time. It seems like we live in a constant state of  being told “the next thing to fear.”

Even in Christian circles, people talk a lot about being “safe.”  Safe from sin, safe from false doctrine, safe from the worldly habits etc.  In fact, there is almost a “culture of safety” that permeates many churches which promotes never doing anything “risky” at all.

The danger of safety

The danger of safety is that, when we focus too much on being safe, we cannot move. If we refuse to obey God’s still small voice then we are essentially “bound by the Devil”. Is being safe in “this” world really the goal of God?  What type of safety are we talking about here?  Is safety the absence of all danger?  Or do we really believe that we should, “pick up your cross and follow after Jesus?”

There is nothing “safe” about being a Christian. In fact, only one of the 12 apostles died a natural death. Everyone else, including the apostle Paul, faced martyrdom. The truth is that anyone who obeys God fully is not safe in this world.

Paul says,

‘Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”

2 Timothy 3:12

Therefore, safety is not the norm for Christians.  In fact, if there is no persecution of any kind in your life it is questionable if you are living for God at all.

Paul also says,

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

Romans 12:18

Though we don’t go looking for a fight,  if we live godly in Christ Jesus, the fight will come to us.  When the world wants us to go along to get along we simply won’t if their way is not God’s way. Therefore, it should not be surprising when we sometimes have to fight for our very lives.

The only true safety we have is in God. That safety is our salvation. We have been graciously saved from a fate literally worse than death. Everything else is small potatoes compared to that.

Avoid the danger of safety

Avoid the danger of safety by being willing, at anytime, anyplace, or with anyone, to obey God rather than man, no matter if it is safe to do so or not.  In that way you will be counted worthy to be called a Christian.

Crowd Sourced Christianity

crowd sourced christianity

This is the essence of Tabernacles Theology

“But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, From whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.“

Ephesians 4:15,16

The Body Of Christ Sharing Divine Love

Continuing on my thoughts about “Open Source Tabernacles Theology” I was thinking today about “crowd sourced Christianity.” When you think of it, at least in this gentile church age, the one constant, the one common denominator, is the Holy Spirit (whether He is with you or in you.)

Right now everyone is worried a lot about being right.  They are concerned with correct doctrine.  I want to say to you that it does not matter how “correct” your doctrine is if, when God knocks at your door, you let Him in.  The person who knows no doctrine and does the will of the Holy Spirit is better than a doctor of the law who will not listen to God’s voice.

We look through a glass darkly

Currently, no one is very right. Yes, I speak directly to those who fancy themselves “theologians.”  I used to think I was really right too. I studied the Greek and Hebrew, had my favorite commentaries, lexicons, and so forth. I knew my body of knowledge pretty well and was confident that I knew the breadth and depth of my Lord. However one day,  I followed the Holy Spirit a little further than I had ever done before. God led me around the bend and much to my surprise I saw the ocean of His Rhema for the first time! Suddenly, it hit me that I had been looking at the equivalent of a small pond of God truth when there was this!. Now, seeing the true vastness of my Lord, I became ashamed of my puny “knowledge.”

It matters if you listen to God’s voice

With an open source Christianity it doesn’t matter how correct people are, it just matters that the listen to the Holy Spirit.  They can use whatever part they find useful, and believe what they want to believe.  It liberates people from having to be the doctrine police.  Believers take the source code, which is the Rhema, hook into God in whatever way works for them, and then run with it.  When they, as it were, build a little Holy Spirit widget and it works really well, other people in the community adopt it.  This is where the “crowd sourcing” comes in.  People naturally incorporate What works really well for everyone in Open Sourced Christianity.

Open sourced Christianity to the people!

This model would return theology to the people and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide all of us. Crowd sourced Christianity gives direct access to the biblical source code i.e. the Rhema.  In this scenario it doesn’t matter whether someone believed just I do because that’s between them and God.  If a bunch of people don’t believe exactly the same no big deal.  The point is, that listening, hearing, and obey God works for everyone, everywhere, anytime.  Why not let God have control and so that He can have His way?

This is really kewl…this is huge.  I am going to have to think about this a lot more.

God bless,

Michael

How can I apply open sourced Christianity to my life?

If you have never “danced” before your Lord I highly recommend it. What it does is give a “fuller” expression to your soul and spirit when you are loving your Lord.  If possible, find out when and where the musical group (the one featured below) is playing in your area.   Attend, Letting go of your worldly inhibitions and dance your heart out like David did!

Alternately, get together with some christian friends and have a “worship party.” Add some great dance music like this and just worship the lord together. If you have two or three come I am sure Jesus will attend too!

Tabernacle worship is even beyond what you see here.  However, God’s Great Dance Floor gives a foretaste of what God is going to do
