What does it mean to be seated with Christ in heavenly places?

God says,

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 2:5,6

And,

“And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.”

John 17:11

Heavenly places speak of the New Heavens and New Earth.  It is a place, a new creation, wherein dwells righteousness.  New Jerusalem rests on a high mountain and the glory of the Lord fills the whole city.  It is, in fact, the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.  At this time  these scriptures come to pass,

“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

Matthew 6:10

Christ walked in heavenly places

Christ walked in these heavenly places while still on earth.  In fact, Peter and John seeing the transfiguration was simply Christ as he currently appears in the ages to come.  The glory of God illuminates Christ, causing him to shine just as He does in New Jerusalem.

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”

Revelation 21:23

These two disciples saw the resurrected Christ, Moses, and Elijah, in the New Heavens and New Earth.  That place currently exists and that is what is meant by walking in heavenly places.

We walk in heavenly places with Christ

Now days, believers are beginning to walk with God in a similar fashion as His son Jesus Christ did.  We, as the Body of Christ, step into sonship.  We, as it were, walk in two worlds like Christ did through a foretaste of our inheritance.

This fundamental truth explains why and how miracles take place.  Walking on water, raising the dead, healing sickness, casting out demons etc. are possible here because they are possible there.

Miracles are possible in heavenly places

God, who inhabits the New Heavens and New Earth presently, allows us to taste of the powers of that world to come.  We stand in His New Creation, therefore, what is possible over there becomes possible over here.  Joshua, who used to linger at the tent that housed the ark of the covenant, said “Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon” and creation obeyed Him.  How is this possible? It is possible, because in the ages to come, creation obeys God in us.

Every time we touch heaven we touch our new home.  Most often we do this in worship.  As we experience holy intimacy we translate into God’s kingdom through His Spirit.  While we are in this world we are not of it, because we sit at the right hand of our Father with Christ Jesus in the next.  We enjoy a sort of dual spiritual citizenship allowing us privileges of another place while still living here.

Ask anything in Jesus name

What this means is that nothing of this world can and should keep us down.  We have the MasterCard of heaven that is good any place we are on this earth.  Natural laws of this world don’t apply to us, because we live by the Law of Love in the next.  Whatever we need, be it food to feed five thousand, healing for our bodies, money to pay our taxes, transportation to be somewhere in the twinkling of an eye, it is ours just for the asking.

To reiterate, when we do miracles we walk in heavenly places with God.  The Holy Spirit, which permeates the world to come, flows through us and makes anything possible.  Every time we reach out in faith,  appropriating the power of God, we stand in the new creation.  In that moment we become a son or daughter of God, in Christ Jesus, and the powers of His New Creation course through our bodies.

Greater works than these shall you do

Jesus says,

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

John 14:12

We have access, through Christ, to all the powers of the world to come.  Everything that Jesus did, and more, is available to us by faith now.  Believing that we can do whatever needs to be done, it is done to us in and through Jesus name.  The plain fact is, Jesus never worried about anything because He had everything.

Live like you are the son of the living God

In conclusion, here is a truth,

“We presently live in a New Creation because we are  God’s new creation.”

The kingdom of heaven is at hand through us.  From the gate beautiful onward, the kingdom of heaven manifested itself through us on earth.   We are that kingdom and we have the power of that world to come dwelling in us.  In Jesus name, we manifest God’s glory and are the light of this world.
