Spiritual Exercise #6

How To Give Away Kittens

Axioms

1.  God cares about even the small things in life.

2.  If you are sensitive to God’s Spirit He will lead and guide you.

3.  Trust the voice of God.

For today’s spiritual exercise you must pick some task on your “to do” list.

Exercise goal:

To allow God to lead and guide you even in small tasks

Exercise Method:

Recently, my wife had two litters of kittens to give away. There were two runts of the litter, one of which almost died, that remained. For some time she had been thinking about asking the neighbor across the street, who had small children, if they would like them.  However, Ginny kept feeling in her spirit to wait.

One day, she felt the wait was over and went to see if our neighbors might like the kittens.  Unfortunately, our neighbor said, “Well, a week ago we would have taken then, but we have just gotten a puppy.”  Disappointed, Ginny asked if is she knew of someone else who might like the kittens.  The neighbor said, “yes, I do.”

God even knows about kittens

A few houses down, Ginny knocked on the suggested door.  She had the two kittens with her.  The woman answered the door with her young children.  As Ginny asked if they would like the kittens, the kids’ eyes became big as saucers looking at the runts. The woman said, “yes, of course, we will take both of them.”

You see, just the day before, tragedy struck that home. The children’s original kitten was accidentally run over and they were heartbroken and traumatized. Through listening to the Holy Spirit, and obeying His voice at the proper time, God gave them two more.

In this exercise, pick some small task that you need to accomplish. Instead of figuring out how and when to perform it yourself, ask God what to do.  Allow Jesus to lead and guide you. Do it when you feel led to do it and not before.

Exercise Benefits:

In conclusion, as you learn to ask God how to perform small tasks in His timing, you build confidence in Him.  You learn how to trust His voice. The object is to practice in an environment where you can make mistakes. It is written,

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?”

Luke 12:6

However, in the future, if you have learned how to be faithful in the small things God can lead and guide you effectively in bigger things

Note: Pick something small.  The purpose is practice.  As always, do not do anything illegal or potentially harmful to yourself or others.

Have fun.

P.S. share your testimonies of what God does for others to read…it will be a great encouragement to everyone!

A Return To Innocence

Innocence

Lord, can these things be?

As we are led by the Spirit of God we return to innocence. Mankind ate of the forbidden fruit and exchanged a life of living by revelation for a natural-minded death. Even in our perfection we were no match for Lucifer, who easily corrupted our thoughts and led Adam and his generations astray.

Doing what seemed right in our own eyes eventually led to the “days of Noah”  when the world became full of violence and men continually did evil in God’s sight. Therefore, it repented God that he had created mankind.

A separation of light and darkness

There is a dichotomy taking place in our generation.  On one hand, the world is becoming full of violence and is continually evil.  On the other hand, the sons of God are starting to go back to the Garden and regain their pre-fallen innocence.

Believers are regaining their innocence through, once again, living by revelation. Christ lived by revelation and was innocent before God.  Jesus did not make decisions according to his natural mind but simply did what He saw His Father do. It is written,

“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.”

John 5:19

And,

“Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.”

John 1:28

In this way, and many others, Jesus moved always through the hand of God and lived a perfect and sinless life through obeying God’s Holy Spirit.

Back to the Garden

Likewise, through living by every word that proceeds from our Father’s mouth, we begin living a sinless and perfect life. While Jesus lived perfectly from birth we, through adoption, come into perfection later in life.  While Jesus was righteous naturally, our righteousness is imputed to us through faith in the Son of God. Through faith, if we believe what God says, we are remade back into the image and likeness of our Father, which is Jesus Christ.  It is written,

“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”

Ephesians 4:13

Innocence is a function of being Spirit-led while corruption is the inevitable result of the living by the knowledge of good and evil. As we cease to live by what seems right to our natural minds we reject the forbidden fruit.  Christ in us, the hope of glory, brings us back to our pre-fallen state. This is how the perfection of the saints takes place.

A return to innocence through revelation

Living by revelation does not mean we do not think.  A life of submission to the Holy Spirit means that we allow God to lead and guide our thoughts and reasoning. We walk, as it were, in the cool of the day with our Father. United with God, His life flows through us. When there is a question on how to proceed, we ask for God’s wisdom rather than doing what seems good to us.  We live and move and have our being in the Spirit of God.

Let Spirit-led people encourage each other to return to a life lived by revelation.  Faith is personal and belief is strengthened by intimate experience with God Himself.

Let God lead you out of the forest of confusion

Finally, let us all come humbly before God.  Let the Holy Spirit wash away the knowledge of good, which harms us just as surely as the knowledge of evil. Allow the revelation of God to lead and guide you daily.  Only God can untangle us. Jesus gives sight to the blind. I pray our spiritual eyes be opened once again. Let us live, as God intended, by every word that proceeds out of His mouth and walk in the cool of the day with our Father once again. Amen.

How can I apply this teaching to my life?

When you are led by the Holy Spirit you return to innocence. This means that when God speaks to you, don’t judge what He says by your natural mind.  Speak when goaded by God’s Spirit.  When you feel led to say something, simply say it.  Speaking through revelation is firmly rooted in trusting God.

Stop second-guessing God.  Accept that our natural reasoning is flawed.  We cannot know what God knows therefore we cannot critique what He does or says.  Trust and obey, as the old hymn says.

Today, when you meet your friend, ask God what He wants to say to them.  When God tells you, simply say it.  See what happens and learn from it.

If you listen closely and pay attention, people, even those who may not yet be reconciled to God, have an innate sense of the divine. Therefore, the truth of God shows through. Listen to this song and feel a return to innocence.
