Breaking Up Is Hard To Do: The Costs Of Unholy Matrimony

breaking

Breaking with the past

God shares truths which are difficult to accept in every generation.  In Christ’s day it was simply proclaiming that he is the son of God.  In Martin Luther’s day it was salvation by faith.  Today God speaks truths which are equally as difficult to accept.  In this essay I speak plainly about one of these challenging truths: Divine Divorce. I know that the consequences of these words are great, therefore I don’t take them lightly.  However, as all believers before us, we must trust God and speak His word no matter what the consequences.

When God suddenly comes back to your temple

One of the side effects of Divine Love is Divine Divorce.  Essentially when God comes to you, if you’re out-of-order in any area of your life, your life will change.  This means “any” area, including your marriage.  Divine Divorce is one of the most difficult aspects of the coming move of Tabernacles for it involves the break up of established marriages.

Jesus said,

“And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves,  And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

Matthew 21:12,13

Why did Jesus act so forcefully?  Were not the money changers just providing a service that pilgrims needed?  Didn’t the religious rulers sanction and bless what they did?  Yes, it was business as usual, yet, when God came to His temple, He cast out all those who sold,  saying, ” My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves”.

God says,

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

1 Corinthians 3:16

Like the money changers in Christ’s time, many people today use their temples (bodies) in ways God never intended.  One of the most grievous mistakes a believer can make is marrying someone the Holy Spirit does not choose.  While people think  sins like smoking or drinking are bad, unholy matrimony is terrible in the eyes of our Lord because it does so much long-term damage.  It is as if we have taken marriage and turned it into something God never meant it to be.

All people make mistakes,  but marrying someone out of God’s will is a doozy.  You skew or stop the plan of God in your life.  You bear children that God did not plan for.  Depending on the quality of the earthly relationship you have, your children may or may not be brought up in the fear and admonition of the Lord.  They, in turn, effect the attitudes of their generations for years to come.  Plus, if you are not in the will of your Father, the people you might have touched for His Kingdom are never affected as God planned.

Is your marriage holy matrimony?

We are all created with a natural and divine need to find a mate, however, we must allow God to join us properly.  God commanded Adam and Eve to go forth, be fruitful and multiply because that was the most important thing for them to do.  However, if there is a divine mate for us, and we do not marry according to God’s leading, our grave mistake is not easily undone.

Putting away mates, whether through mutual agreement or through irreconcilable differences, is never an easy process.  Many times, separating your lives can be extremely chaotic and emotionally draining.  If there are children in the picture the challenges are even greater.  Though none of these consequences are God’s fault, nevertheless, breaking up is hard to do.

It is our personal responsibility to be led by God’s Spirit

If separation is God’s will, you must allow the Holy Spirit to determine how and when to proceed with a dissolution.  During this time we must resist the urge take matters into our own hands.  Trying to do something spiritual through natural minds only increases the hardship of breaking up.  Ideally, both of you realize the truth and go your separate ways amicably.  This is best for all concerned, even any children, because they realize mommy and daddy don’t hate each other.

Unfortunately, given the worldly mindset of some, an antagonistic divorce is sometimes unavoidable.  In these cases you proceed prayerfully, only taking actions at the time and in the ways God mandates.  Again, putting your hand to the process, like Uzziah did, only makes matters worse.  If you allow God to lead and guide you He can thread the needle of your marital dissolution in such a way as to minimize the damage.

In the end, every one of us must trust and obey God’s voice.  This can be and often is very different from obeying the churches teachings.  The clergy, for mainly selfish reasons, want you to remain in your marriages at all costs.  They even call earthly vows “Holy Matrimony” to reinforce their authority.  Even if ministers realize God is breaking up a marriage, they saying nothing.  Therefore, don’t rely on your clergyman’s opinions about your marriage, listen to God for yourself.

Breaking up is hard to do

Finally, breaking up a marriage is an intensely personal matter between you, your mate, and your Lord.  Everyone will have an opinion, but only God’s desires really matter.  Changing course, when you have traveled down a wrong path for a long time, costs a lot.  Sometimes God must bring you back to absolute zero so that you can begin again.  However, no matter how difficult the adjustment is, it is better to be on the path God chooses for you with nothing than that to end up far away from Him with everything.

Why We Worship Love

worship

Trinity declares,

“Neo, I’m not afraid anymore. The Oracle told me that I would fall in love and that that man… the man who I loved would be The One. So you see, you can’t be dead. You can’t be… because I love you. You hear me? I love you.”

From the movie “The Matrix”

All people worship love the world over.  In every culture people pay homage to Amor.  In fact, it is safe to say, that all people everywhere want to love and be loved. Even in the hit movie, “The Matrix” what saves the day is Trinity’s declaration of love for Neo.  As Trinity’s lips press against Neo’s, he suddenly finds the strength to live.  Not only that, but “Mr. Anderson” finds superhuman strength to defeat the enemy agents.  The very apex of the whole first Matrix film is Trinity’s declaration that Neo must be “The One” because she loves him.

Songs of love

People seek mates because they believe that is how to find love.  Women becomes objects of worship and Men become objects of desire.  Songs of love are songs of worship, praising lovers to the stars.  Women wait all night by the phone hoping their lover will call. Men adore women as goddesses. In literature, Hellen of Troy is immortalized as “the face that launched a thousand ships”.

Unfortunately, people mistakenly worship the form that love comes in (people) rather than the source of love itself (God).  Frankly, the love that people worship in each other is simply their Creator revealing Himself through earthly vessels.  When men or women yield to Love, God shines through and we feel whole.  Those whom we love become more than they actually are, therefore many mistakenly worship the person rather than the true author of love itself.

Christians are not the only ones that experience God.  Our Father deals with everyone, saved and unsaved.  If he didn’t, no one would ever become saved.  While Spiritual Connections should be experienced with the knowledge of God, most experience them outside Christians circles.  This is due to the fact that Christians are not generally open to the demonstration of Divine Love.  Twin flames, soul mates, and kindred spirits are simply Spiritual Connections in a non-christian context.  Unbelievers feel the effects of Divine Love without acknowledging the Christian God who is Divine Love.

God creates us to respond to love

We are all created with the ability and need to love.  When we yield ourselves to God’s we regain some of His image and likeness.  It is this “likeness of God” that causes people to worship love.

The Matrix is not a Christian movie, yet it does demonstrate a fundamental truth: love conquers all.  When Trinity kisses neo in the film , it is like magic, giving life to ‘The One’.  Her belief in him causes her to step out in faith and declare her love. This is what revives “The One”.  Similarly, with connections, it causes you do exactly as you feel without question because you love and trust them. Moreover, you autoomatically do anything  your connection needs allowing God to love them through you.

If Jesus wrote “The Matrix”

If Jesus wrote “The Matrix”,

Trinity, if this were a Christ centered movie, demonstrates the love of God flowing through her voice and lips.  Trinity, by her faith in Neo allows God’s love to flow through her. Moreover, Trinity opened her heart in order to do it.  Becoming love is what gives Neo the will to live.

Similarly with connections, you become a conduit for God’s love, doing exactly as you feel led without question.  As you believe, God fills them with His immense love, peace and joy. Moreover, spiritual connections are willing to do whatever He desires through them, fulfilling thier connections deepest needs. There is really no limit to this either, because our lover is a limitless God.

For example, when you meet a fellow believer you might ask God, “how do you want me to manifest your love right now?”. In theory, your Father should be able to express Himself  freely through you. He may smile, shake their hand, greet them with a Holy Kiss, or hold them if they are sad. After all, shouldn’t Jesus be able to love them through you in whatever way He chooses? Often, our fears, prejudices, and self-consciousness restrain God from doing what He wants to do.  We must have faith and allow God to love others through us.  Plainly, if Trinity refused to do what she did, Neo and everyone else would have been lost.

God is love

In reality, God is everywhere.  In truth, God is love.  Therefore, where God is there is love.  The reason people worship love is that they instinctively want to worship God.  The way God expresses His love to us is through one another.  The deepest form of God’s Divine Love is through our intended mates because we open our hearts so fully to each other.

We have been lied to that worship is only an act between us and God somewhere up above.  True worship allows God to reveal Himself in whatever way He desires through us and our brethren.  This is why Jesus said,

“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Matthew 25:40

Anything God does is Holy

A holy kiss is God kissing you through a member of His body.  A hug, done at the bidding of God’s Spirit, becomes a holy hug.  If you can receive it, in divine marriages, even intimacy becomes an expression of God Himself.  Through your mate, God loves you and you love them, because where there is love, He is in your midst.

You cannot have true love without including God.  Hollywood wants to portray men or women as possessing Divine Love when they do not.  Left to ourselves, our love is earthly and ultimately carnal.  We often love because our partners make us feel loved.  However, God’s love is everything written in 1 Corinthians chapter 13 and more.   God says,

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails…”

I Corinthians 13: 4-8 (NIV)

Worship God who is love

In conclusion, it is right to worship love if you are worshipping God.  Men and women always fail to love as God loves.  This is why there are so many songs about heartbreak.  Most of these songs, the one we really identify with, describe the breakup of spiritual connections between lovers.

Finally the thing that we must realize is that we can love God and receive His love through one another.  It is what we were created to do from the very beginning.  When we avoid intimacy we oppose God’s desires.  Intimacy is God’s very reason for this creation.
