Paul was taught according to the perfect manner of the law of his fathers yet he killed those who believed in Jesus. Though schooled in all of the learning of the Jews, even at the feet of Gamaliel, Paul was unequivocally wrong. Moreover, it took a spiritual experience, a personal revelation of Jesus, to change his mind.
Damascus may be in your future
Therefore, we have scriptural precedence illustrating how spiritual experience can and should fundamentally change a person’s doctrine. Paul testifies that sometimes, we must radically change our belief system in order to come into alignment with God’s will.
What is coming in the spiritual fulfillment of the feast of Tabernacles is a game changer. God is about to sweep much of what we believe aside. Like Saul, it will be difficult to admit that we did not have things exactly right, but it will also help us to truly serve the God and love His people.
God gives all truth through revelation. Outside God given revelation there is no truth.
A big misconception is that people can somehow see “truth” independent of God. This is simply not so, because truth is based upon the very nature of our Creator. Furthermore, in order to see Him, He must reveal Himself to you.
God says,
“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 16:13-17
Recognizing God
From this verse, we learn that even though they had walked with the son of God, seen the miracles, ate the loaves and fishes, they couldn’t see who He was. In fact, God had to reveal His son to them through divine revelation.
God says,
“And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
Where have you been?
And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done.
Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Slow of heart
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”

It is unbelief that blinds us to the truth and not our lack of ability to understand it. Jesus walks among us, yet God must open our eyes to see him.
See things as they really are
To see God’s truth is to simply know the way things really are. When you see the way things really are, it is only because God reveals it to you. People think that they can figure things out on their own, but they cannot. It is impossible to come to knowledge of the truth without God. If you consider closely the times that you have realized a profound “truth” it was like a light bulb turned on and you “suddenly” realized it. We call this revelation. This light bulb effect is the transfer of truth from His Spirit to you. Without God doing so you can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth. God through Jesus is the light of the world and without His illumination, you cannot truly see.
